48 Hours of Food and Drinks in Barcelona 🍷🍴
Barcelona, A city filled with color, history, culture, and amazing food and drinks! Although my time in Barcelona was short, I made the most of every bite and sip I was able to experience. From busy food markets and hidden speakeasies to tasteful tapas and cozy cafes, here is my summary of the best culinary adventures in Barcelona.
La Boqueria Market: A Feast for all
My first stop was La Boqueria Mercat, a food market with vibrance in all forms. It completely stole my heart (and appetite too). Walking through the rows of colorful stalls, I tried so many incredible bites, from fresh fruit cups and Iberian ham to empanadas, and ended with tasty desserts. Everywhere I looked, there was something new to sample too. Spicy chorizo, local cheeses, and fresh juices are some of my favorites I got the chance to sample. It is a place where you might think you are going for a light snack, but little do you know, you will most likely leave happy and veryfull from all it has to offer.
Unique Speakeasies
My first night, I ventured to Monk, where fire met flavor! This speakeasy is hidden behind what looks like a convenience store. But once you step through the secret doors, you are brought into a vibrant bar scene. The vibe and the cocktails are like no other. One drink in particular is topped with a cherry that is torched right in front of your eyes. Not only did the glass light up, but so did my face with great pure excitement. It was smoky, sweet, and truly a unique experience all around.
The next night I tried Paradiso. Let me just start by saying this lived up to the hype. It is ranked as one of the world’s best bars, and it is clear why! The entrance? Through what looks like a deli sandwich shop's refrigerator door. Once inside, I tried a drink topped with a bubble cloud that floated above the glass, bursting with scented vapor. I also tried two other wild creations—one with lights built underneath the drink to embrace its unique glow, and another with edible designs crafted like mini works of art. Drinking here felt like stepping into a surrealist painting with a straw.
Tapas Time!
Now onto Tapas! I had heard many amazing reviews about El Xampanyet before visiting Barcelona. Many said it was a true, authentic tapas experience and a must-try before leaving the city. Be prepared to wait in line, as this place is very popular. But, feel free to try their Cava while you wait (I took full advantage of this). The atmosphere is very lively and has a true Spanish feel. I ordered quite a few different items to try. To start, I got some red stuffed peppers. Let me just tell you, I could have eaten a thousand of these. They are filled with a smooth and tasty Spanish cheese that pairs perfectly with the beautiful taste of the peppers. I was then convinced by the waitress to try the local Spanish pasta dish that seemed simple but hit every taste bud perfectly. Of course, we also had to get the iconic pan con tomate- bread rubbed with ripe tomatoes and garlic. Lastly, I could not leave without getting our hands on the mussels that were fresh and flavorful! It was the kind of meal that makes you want to slow down, order more cava, and never leave.
Another place for tapas is Casa Lolea. This place is a sangria and tapa heaven! They are well known for their homemade sangria. You can even buy it at the airport when leaving if you enjoy it as much as I did. I each had a glass (okay, maybe two) of the rose sangria, which was very light and refreshing. For food, I got the pan con tomate that was bursting with flavor! Hands down the best in Barcelona! I also opted for the bread with creamy brie and tomato, and most importantly, the best patatas bravas ever! They were crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and topped with the perfect spicy aioli combination. If you are looking for a beautiful setting and classic bites done right, this is the place.
Quick Breakfast Bite
One morning, I was craving a quick breakfast before a day of exploring. I came across Ripa Coffee on TikTok and knew I had to try it. This cafe is bright and stylish and has a serious breakfast game. They had a selection of pastries to choose from, but my choice was their banana bread, which was warm and just sweet enough. I also opted for the lemon loaf that was zesty and soft. I had this alongside iced lattes that were smooth and refreshing during a hot day. The vibe is minimal and modern, with comfy seating, great playlists, and that relaxed energy that makes you want to stay all morning.
Final Thoughts
Although two days in Barcelona is never enough, I still enjoyed the city and the food and drink scene every second I was there. From street market flavors to cocktails and classic tapas, every bite told a story. Whether you're here for a short visit or a long stay, come hungry. You will leave with a full belly and an even fuller appreciation for this city’s culinary experience.
