London Eats (Part 1): A Week of Indulgence Food

London Eats (Part 1): A Week of Indulgence Food

London is a city where every corner is tempting you with something tasty! From market stalls overflowing with comfort food to fantastic restaurants that blend tradition with a modern twist, I experienced many great culinary experiences during my couple of days in London this past March. Here’s a snapshot of my foodie adventures:

Borough Market Comfort: Mac & Cheese & Humble Crumble
Let’s begin with the Bath Dairy mac and cheese from Borough Market. This was far from your average mac and cheese. It was rich, gooey, and bubbling hot. It was made right in front of you in a huge pan with tons of different cheeses mixed in. This is truly some of the best mac and cheese I have ever tasted, and it is the kind of dish that makes you stop mid-bite to really appreciate all the flavors. I then tried the famous chocolate-covered strawberries, which are all over TikTok and Instagram and are all the rage. The line moves very quickly, even though it can seem quite long depending on when you go. Every strawberry is truly perfect in color and taste, and when mixed with rich chocolate, it is an even sweeter delicacy. Lastly, I couldn’t resort to trying Humble Crumble. Their signature twist of traditional crumble is genius! You choose your base, pile on crunchy toppings, and add cream or custard. It's warm and melts in your mouth beautifully the second it hits your tongue.

Sweet Tooth Heaven: Buns from Home
Next up is Buns From Home. If I could bottle up Buns From Home, I would. I went in only planning to try one bun but left with three. The pistachio bun was nutty and decadent, the strawberry one had just the perfect amount of sweetness, and the fresh strawberry flavor really shined through, and the hazelnut was a cozy bun with a smoothness that was unique. All the buns were perfectly flaky and buttery, making it hard to choose a favorite.

A Wine & Ice Cream Bar with Vibes
One of the most fun stops was a wine and ice cream bar called The Dreamery. The ceiling bursts with color, creating a stunning atmosphere and enhancing the bar’s unique concept. Combined with pulsing music, the venue feels like both a party and an indulgence. Ice cream with wine might sound unusual, but it really works! The ice cream is light with lots of flavors, and the staff gladly offers pairing recommendations. Overall, it’s a very cool spot in London with great vibes!

Classic Indulgence: Burgers, Fries, and Cookies
Sometimes you just need the basics done right. At Bill’s Restaurant, I opted for a classic burger and fries that hit every note. It nailed the juicy, salty, and satisfying aspects all in one bite. It was comfort food in its purest form!

Then, for dessert, I tracked down Creme Cookie. I had this on my list for a long time, so I was very excited to finally give it a try. It was hard to choose which one to try, but in the end, I chose the chocolate chip sea salt cookie. It was warm and perfectly oversized. It felt almost sinful pulling it apart, chocolate stretching like melted cheese on pizza. It reminds me a lot of the famous Levain cookie in NYC. Easily one of my top sweet bites in London!

A Taste of the World: Din Tai Fung
To balance out all these experiences, I had been eager to try Din Tai Fung. When I discovered there was one in London, I made a reservation to see what the hype was all about. Famous for their xiao long bao, the dumplings didn’t disappoint. However, some other dishes and the dessert dumplings were just good. It wasn’t a bad meal, but I might not return soon compared to other city options.

Final Thoughts
The London food scene is really endless. Every visit offers something new and exciting, making it a true paradise for food lovers.
